Hiking

With its rich diverse landscapes, South Africa’s slack-packing trails are multi-day walking trails where one carries a day pack, stays in comfortable accommodation with all meals cooked.

There is a variety of trails – along the beautiful coastline, through the winelands, in the mountains or desert, or walk with wildlife in game reserves. To name a few…

One of the best ways of experiencing the African bush is to participate in the Kruger Park trails – Bushmans, Wolhuter, Napi, Metsi-Metsi, Sweni, Olifants and Nyalaland (pic 1). Hikers are accompanied by armed and experienced rangers.

The Oystercatcher trail (pic 2) in the western part of the Garden Route meanders from Mossel Bay along a wild coastline to the Gouritz River mouth.

Explore the Breede River Valley (pic 3), between Robertson and Ashton at the heart of the R62 Wine Route – sample the wines of the region, visit olive and lavender farms, and cruise the Breede River.

Explore the Drakensberg foothills on the Giants Castle trail which includes some of the most scenic and bio diverse parts of KwaZulu Natal.

The Thonga trail starts around the Kosi lake system by the Mozambiquan border, down untouched beaches, up through the indigenous coastal forest and an ocean boat trip to see dolphins and coral reefs at Sodwana Bay.
